Dirty Thirty Figgy Smoothie

Today is July 24th.
Do you know what that means? It’s my birthday! But not just ANY birthday, it’s a milestone…
I wish I knew the original source of this meme, it's hilarious! However, I Google'd it and found this link about some reddit user who may have created it!

The DIRTY THIRTY!
I’ll be honest, birthdays don’t usually make much of an impact on my mind, but there’s nothing like turning over to a new decade to make your mind go in circles about anything and everything you’ve done in your life up until this point.
For this post, I’ll skip the whole “looking back at the last decade, and my thoughts on life” entry – and just give you all a smoothie recipe that I enjoyed for the start of my first day as a 30 year old. (That sounds REALLY weird to me…)

Figgy Pudding Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 6 fresh figs
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 6 small pitted dates (or 2 large pitted dates)
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Just enough water to cover all ingredients in the blender (I was going to use coconut water, but I completely forgot to!)

Method:

  • Blend all, and enjoy! :) It’s always that simple.

Tangy Green Juice

It's been a long time since I've posted a recipe - so I'll share a green juice that I'm currently enjoying! :)
This is easily one of my new favourites - very tart, very tangy, and filled with goodness!
The picture lacks anything special - but the taste more than makes up for that ;)

Tangy Green Juice

Ingredients:
  • 6-8 stalks of celery
  • lots of spinach (a few hand fulls, tightly packed)
  • 2 green apples, cored
  • 1 lime, peeled
  • 1 red grapefruit, peeled
  • 1 small pineapple
  • ginger (I like a lot of ginger, and for this recipe you need to use a little more than you would normally because the grapefruit can overpower it slightly. I used a piece that was about 1" thick, and 4" long)
Juice all ingredients, and enjoy! :) This makes a lot of juice, so if you're doing a cleanse it will be 1-2 meals. If you're just drinking juice for the enjoyment, then drink as much as you like or share with a friend. <3

Olive Hummus

It's been a while, and a lot has been going on. Moving from one part of Toronto to another is the biggest thing - but instead of going into detail about all of that, here is a delicious hummus recipe instead! :)
It's a quick and simple recipe, as hummus recipes usually are, and has a nice little kick of olive that isn't overwhelming.

Olive Hummus

Ingredients:
  • 1 can chick peas, drained and rinsed (try to get the chick peas that just have water and chick peas, with no other ingredients listed.)
  • 3-4 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 12 black olives (or olives of your choice). If you want more of an olive flavour, use more - I found that for this amount of hummus, 12 did the job nicely!
  • Salt of choice, to taste (I used about 1 tsp)
  • 1-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (normally I'd use lemon juice for hummus, but the apple cider vinegar really helps with bringing out the flavour of the olives)
  • 3 tbsp nutritional yeast
 Method:
  • Puree all ingredients in a food processor or a high-powered blender.
  • Eat, and enjoy! :) (See? I told you it was easy...)
The ingredients, in all their glory!

Drizzle with a little bit of evoo, and top with an olive. <3
