It's been a little while since I've reviewed a place - aside from my reviews on Yelp - and there's this awesome little place in Queen East (Toronto) that I wanted to share with anyone who's looking for some good Italian vegan food.
Bello Bio is associated with Di Martino Organic Imports, and is situated in a cozy store at: 2308 Queen St. East, Toronto, Ontario M4E 1G8.
(Beaches area in Toronto - Take the 501 Queen car east until Silver Birch Ave., then walk a block or so east and it will be on your left hand side!)
The products they have there are pretty awesome - they have foods ranging from vegan cold cuts to different types of "milks". They even have things like chick peas packed in vegetable broth (in glass jars) - which is honestly something I haven't seen before, so that's pretty cool. :)
Here's what I picked up today:
The dessert is VERY chocolatey (I couldn't resist, and had some shortly after getting home). The cheese is delicious, and I can't wait to make pizza and other goodies with it this weekend. (I'm going to test out a cheesecake idea with some of the cream cheese-like spread, mmmmm...) That little box in front of the chocolate dessert - that stuff's going to get whipped up and sweetened a bit to go with my latte on Saturday morning... And the "milks", well they'll find a happy home in my tummy as well! If you try only one thing, let it be the hazelnut milk - it's outstanding. (Just don't empty the shelves, because I'd like to go back and get more!)
Upon going into the store, it's definitely cozy - but it's better that way. I went there with my boyfriend, and we got a chance to speak to this lovely family. They also fed us a bunch of samples, and I fell in love with some hazelnut milk. That stuff is DELICIOUS! One of the things I really enjoy is the different cheese options they offer. Go in and check it out yourself, and they'll tell you about some of the history of how this cheese was created! :)
[Random fact: the guy who created the cheese is only in his 30's.]
Seriously, these are some of the nicest people you'll meet. Most vegans are nice anyways, but this lovely bunch was so welcoming and knowledgeable on their products. It's rare to go into a store and find people who are passionate about what they do, and who will talk to you about the foods they offer.
Thank you both for being so welcoming, and congratulations on opening up the store! I can't wait for all of the new products you'll be bringing in (save me some of that "Nutella" spread, I'll want to stock up on that!). Looking forward to coming here on a regular basis. :)
Better yet, go into the store! :) They're open:
Mon - Fri: | 11:00 am - 7:00 pm |
Sat: | 11:00 am - 6:00 pm |
Sun: | 11:00 am - 5:00 pm |
