Autumn Coffee Flavours - Syrups, and All That Jazz

This post will be short-n-sweet, and is related to one of my loves: coffee. Namely, flavoured coffee...

In light of the autumn season coming up (heck, I just love the Autumn!), and of the pumpkin spice lattes that aren't quite vegan (damn you Starbucks!!), here's a great reference chart if you're looking to hit up Second Cup or Timothy's (or any coffee shop that uses Torani syrups for their lattes) - this chart gives you all the info on the allergens present in each syrup. All of them are vegan EXCEPT for the following [Update: which may contain one of the 8 common allergens (including non-vegan ingredients in their natural flavours]:
  • Brown Sugar Cinnamon
  • Almond Roca
  • Amaretto
  • English Toffee
  • Hazelnut
  • Macadamia Nut
  • Pumpkin Pie*
  • Shortbread
  • Sugar Free Brown Sugar Cinnamon
  • Sugar Free Hazelnut
  • Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie*
  • Tiramisu
*Note: there are two "pumpkin" syrups with the Torani brand. There is "Pumpkin Spice" which IS vegan, and there is "Pumpkin Pie" which is NOT vegan may not be vegan. If you're asking for a pumpkin spice latte at a coffee shop, make sure to check the ingredients to ensure you're having the vegan one. Unfortunately, Starbucks' pumpkin spice latte is not vegan (I found out the hard way last year...). If you haven't tried a pumpkin spice latte, well then it's something you just need to do!
I'll be posting my recipe for a pumpkin spice latte smoothie super soon! It's one of my favourite fall flavours! :) I also have a nice little handful of recipes that I need to bust out on this blog when I get the chance! Busy times, busy times... *sigh*

EDIT UPDATE for Torani Syrups:
After a visit to Second Cup to check out the Torani syrups, and not seeing any "dairy" ingredients listed on the Pumpkin Pie syrup, I viewed the FAQ section from the Torani website, and this is what they say:

Do Torani Flavored Syrups contain any allergens?

None of the “Big 8” allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy, fish, shellfish, soy, eggs, wheat) are used as ingredients. However, some natural flavors may contain natural compounds that are derived from sources that contain allergens.

Seeing as the products don't contain ingredients that are allergens/non-vegan, the syrups are similar to products that have to say "may contain dairy..." etc.
I know there's a lot of debate among vegans on whether or not it's okay to eat products that "may contain" dairy or "may have come into contact with" or "produced in a facility that uses dairy", but for me it doesn't matter as much as having something that actually contains dairy.  To each their own on that debate really, but it's good to research the products! It's hard to know if the products actually have elements that are derived from non-vegan sources when they don't say it on the label. I guess it's better safe than sorry though to say "may contain"...
Oh well!
